KALAMAZOO, Mich.—In honor of Women’s History Month, the Air Zoo is celebrating Women in Aviation and Space Day on March 12.
At 1 and 2 p.m., visitors will be able to meet a female aviator character from the past, as she tells tales about women from aviation and space history. Visitors will learn about the accomplishments of Amelia Earhart, the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) and Sally Ride. They’ll also have the chance to speak with women who have had personal experience in the fields of space exploration and aviation.
A special arrangement of photos, artifacts and clothing from women in aviation will be on display all month long.
Congress first declared a Women’s History Week in 1981. In 1987 Congress expanded the celebration to the entire month of March and approved the National Women’s History Month Resolution every year since.
