McFarlane Aviation Products introduces FAA-PMA approved Cowl Saver baffle seals for 172R and 172S Cessna aircraft. The low friction baffle seals address issues raised in Cessna Service Bulletin 08-53-01 with regards to cowl and firewall cracking due to vibration transfer. Other advantages of the patent-pending product are easier cowl installation and less vibration in the cockpit, according to company officials.
The new low-friction laminated Cowl Saver seals have 30 times less friction than standard seals, officials add, noting this allows the engine to move without taking the cowl with it and drastically reduces cowl and airframe vibration transfer that causes cowl damage. The baffle seals are precut for easy installation and available individually or in kits that include all required baffle seals, soft rivets, retainer strips for one aircraft, and installation instructions.
