450 Young Eagles fly during Skycatcher tour

By Janice Wood · April 7, 2011 ·

Young Eagles Co-Chairman Jeff Skiles and EAA chapters in four communities opened the world of flight to young people during two weekends in March as more than 450 kids were flown during EAA’s Young Eagles Skycatcher Tour.

Skiles speaks to Young Eagles during the Skycatcher tour.

A highlight of the tour’s stop in Spruce Creek, Fla., was the opportunity for Skiles to fly Michael Jones, the son of a passenger on the famed US Airways Flight 1549 aircraft that Skiles and Sully Sullenberger successfully landed on the Hudson River in January 2009.

The tour, which ended at Sun ’n Fun with the Skycatcher on display at the EAA exhibit, also stopped in St. Louis, Lebanon, Tenn., and Columbia, S.C.
