Reno champion to be at Planes of Fame Air Show

By Janice Wood · April 25, 2011 ·

Two-time Reno Unlimited Gold Winning Pilot Steven Hinton will be with the P-51 Mustang “Strega” at this year’s Planes of Fame Air Show, slated for May 14-15 at California’s Chino Airport.

Boasting a Rolls Royce V-1649, 12 cylinder, 3800 horsepower liquid-cooled engine, Strega holds the record for the fastest lap ever at Reno Air Races, clocking in at 511 mph. The 511 lap is unofficially the fastest lap.

Hinton is the youngest pilot to ever win the Unlimited Gold Race at age 22. Ironically, the previous holder of that record was his dad Steve Hinton Sr. who won at age 26 in 1978.
