Master Instructor Program revised for glider instructors

By Janice Wood · May 2, 2011 ·

Master Instructors has revised its Master Instructor Continuing Education Program to improve participation by glider instructors. An advisory committee of five Master CFIs who also were experienced glider instructors developed a number of glider-specific recommendations that have been incorporated into the Master Instructor application package, according to program officials.

“Although numerous glider instructors have earned Master Instructor accreditation, critical differences between glider and powered aircraft training made it difficult for many otherwise-qualified glider instructors to become Masters,” said JoAnn Hill, program co-creator.  “The changes we’ve made to our program bring parity to the two training environments, and we hope more glider instructors will now aspire to become Masters.”

The Master Instructor Program provides a national accreditation for aviation educators based on advanced professional standards and rigorous peer review. Program creators Sandy and JoAnn Hill have been serving the Master Instructor community since 1995. The last 16 National Flight Instructors of the Year have all been Masters.

Sorta difficult meeting the requirements if one is flying at a typical glider club. We’re fortunate to have two students at a time in the lat two clubs of which I’ve been a member.
