Sun ’n Fun Radio goes global

By Janice Wood · May 4, 2011 ·

Every year at Sun ’n Fun, a radio station run by volunteers keeps those attending the fly-in entertained, as well as up to date on what’s going on. This year it was especially important as the radio was used to broadcast emergency safety warnings about the tornado that hit the airport on Thursday, March 31.

But Sun ’n Fun Radio’s coverage of this year’s fly-in wasn’t just to the people at Lakeland Linder Regional Airport in Florida. Its programming was streamed live over the Internet throughout the six days of the show. The live audio streaming was made possible by a continuing partnership with LiveATC.net. Radio officials added they will continue to stream programming year round.

“For many years, Dave Shallbetter and his team of talented volunteers at Sun ’n Fun Radio have provided a terrific service to those who are here in Lakeland participating in the Sun ’n Fun Fly-In,” said Jim Bernegger, director of corporate marketing and communications. “Now with this live streaming via the Internet, people from across the country and around the world who are unable to attend Sun ’n Fun could still engage in various programs carried live, as well as remain current on all that’s taking place here in Lakeland.”

Listeners can access the archives of this year’s programming — ranging from the evening programs to the forums at the FAA Production Studios — at Sun-n-Fun.org. Click on the Multimedia tab and then click on SnF Radio. Click on LiveATC.net player, which will take you to the page with the archived broadcasts.
