Sporty’s adds Skycatcher to training fleet

By Janice Wood · July 6, 2011 ·

Sporty’s Academy has taken delivery of a 2011 Cessna 162 Skycatcher. This light sport airplane joins Sporty’s training fleet of late-model Cessna 172s, a Cessna 182, and Diamond Xtreme Motorglider.

The Skycatcher features a modern flight deck with a glass panel Garmin G300 system. Its powered by a Continental O-200, providing speeds up to 135 mph and a range of 400 nautical miles.

The Skycatcher will be used for Sport, Recreational and Private Pilot training as well as glass-panel transition flying, rental checkouts and introductory flights.

“This airplane represents all that we love about flying,” said Sporty’s Academy President Eric Radtke. “It’s fun and adventuresome while still being safe and modern.”

Sporty’s Academy will make the Skycatcher available at an introductory rate of $99 per hour.

“With its dual control sticks, doors on both sides of the aircraft and comfortable, ergonomic seats, the Skycatcher is an ideal airplane for training,” adds Radtke. “We are counting on the Skycatcher to make flying fun for our ‘Finish Up’ students, those who somehow got bogged down in the training process at other schools.”
