Technology developed by LORD Corporation will be featured at the AirVenture in Oshkosh later this month, along with a chance to win LORD products.
Held at the American Bonanza Society Tent (across the road from the Theater in the Woods) on Wednesday, July 27, at 1 p.m., Tom Law, staff engineer, Product Support at LORD Corporation, will make his first presentation on engine mounts and suspension. The presentation will discuss engine suspension installations using static and dynamic modeling to optimize the vibration attenuation, engine excursions and dynamic stability with the use of elastomeric materials whereby spring rates, damping and environmental factors can be modified to maximize the suspension system’s performance. Presentation attendees can sign up to win their choice of one set of LORD-manufactured piston engine mounts for single or light twin GA aircraft.
On Thursday July 28 at 1 p.m., Law will discuss shimmy dampers. During his presentation he will review the development of a non-hydraulic aircraft nose wheel shimmy damper including performance, fit checks, laboratory testing, certification testing and field life reports, as well as provide an explanation of how shimmy develops and how to eliminate it. Registrants attending this presentation can sign up to win a Bonanza shimmy damper from LORD.
Law is a member of the newly formed Product Support Engineering group responsible for fixed-wing aircraft fielded products. He began his career at LORD Corporation in 1975 as a co-op engineer in Erie, Pa., working on fixed-wing and industrial products. He received his Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from RIT in Rochester, N.Y. Law holds four patents related to fixed-wing products, including thrust reverser system isolators, engine systems and APU isolation systems.
