Thunder Over The Boardwalk returns to Atlantic City

By Janice Wood · August 1, 2011 ·

The 9th annual Atlantic City Airshow “Thunder Over The Boardwalk” will return to the sky on Aug. 17. Headlined by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and the U.S. Army Golden Knights, the largest airshow on the East Coast will feature parachute teams, fly-bys, formations and more.

Kicking off the festivities will be the inaugural Atlantic City Salutes America’s Armed Forces Boardwalk Parade. This parade, scheduled for Aug. 15 at 6 p.m., will include military bands playing patriotic music, representatives from each branch of the military, veteran and civic organizations, and much more.

“The Airshow has become the signature summer event for Atlantic City,” said Jeffrey Vasser, president of the Atlantic City Convention & Visitors Authority. “With last year’s show attracting an estimated 650,000 people, Thunder Over the Boardwalk is a major economic generator for the city and is great for local businesses. We’re looking forward to another successful show.”

This year’s airshow begins at 10 a.m. and admission is free.

The Atlantic City International Airport (ACY) is the host airport for the Atlantic City Airshow. The majority of airshow performers take off and land via ACY even though the Atlantic City Airshow takes place over the beach and boardwalk in Atlantic City.
