Rocky Mountain Airshow slated

By Janice Wood · August 8, 2011 ·

The 32nd Annual Rocky Mountain Airshow takes off the weekend of Aug. 26-28.

The show, at Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport (BJC) in Broomfield, Colo., will be comprised of aerobatics, afterburners and pyrotechnics, including an appearance by the B2 Stealth Bomber. The show also will feature a “Walk Through Time” in the air and on the ground. There will be a living history performance comprised of a number of the nation’s flying vintage aircraft, both military and civilian, along with private collections of military vehicles and re-enactors. The culmination is a pyrotechnic remembrance of America’s battles for freedom, including the attack on Pearl Harbor re-enactment presented by TORA! TORA! TORA! — appearing in Colorado for the first time.

Throughout the weekend, there will be displays and exhibits on the ramp. See live radar with Dr. Wurman and the Storm Chasers in the Doppler Radar Truck, as well as a Living WWII museum with Heroes & Patriots in person along with displays. There will also be exhibits by Ball Aerospace, Redstone College, local aviation clubs, and one of the largest encampments in the state containing an international collection of military trucks, transports and support vehicles.

Between performances, families will be able to enjoy the many vendors present, as well as the Adventure Zone, the kid’s area designed to inspire today’s youth through aviation with hands-on activities, inspirational speakers and more.

Also a part of the Rocky Mountain Airshow is the Rocky Mountain Regional Fly-In, which hosts hundreds of aircraft from around the country, national aviation vendors and thousands of pilots looking to see the latest aviation products and services. Over 25,000 people attended last year and attendance is expected to surpass 35,000 people this year, according to officials.

Festivities and performances kick off Friday, Aug. 26 from 6-9:30 p.m. with a Twilight Airshow and Fireworks display and continue throughout the weekend from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27, and Sunday, Aug. 28. For more information: RMAirshow.com
