FAA approves Lambert’s noise compatibility program

By Janice Wood · September 29, 2011 ·

The FAA has approved the Lambert-St. Louis International Airport Noise Compatibility Program following a comprehensive two-year study on existing noise levels from aircraft and airport operations.

The newly approved program is an update to a 1997 plan. Lambert’s new program continues the mission to address ways to reduce current and future noise levels on communities surrounding the airport, officials said.

“We are pleased with the study’s outcome because it determined Lambert’s 30-year noise mitigation effort has been a success and no new programs are needed,” said Lambert Director Rhonda Hamm?Niebruegge. “Lambert received great support and input from its airport partners and surrounding communities, which was essential to the study and will be just as important as we continue to monitor the effects of aircraft noise on our neighbors.”

Lambert’s program focuses on three focus areas: noise abatement, land use planning and program management. Noise abatement measures include approved departure routes of aircraft and time restrictions on various aircraft operations and movements. Land use planning includes the airport’s efforts to work with local jurisdictions to ensure optimal development can occur that is compatible with airport and aircraft operations. Program management measures include upgrading Lambert’s aircraft monitoring system and continued program outreach with area communities.

Lambert’s FAA-approved Noise Compatibility Program report will be available at many St. Louis County libraries beginning the first week of October. It’s also available online
