Able wins International Business Award

By Janice Wood · October 5, 2011 ·

Able Engineering & Component Services has been named Arizona’s outstanding international business.

The Phoenix Committee on Foreign Relations presented its 2011 International Business Award for Excellence in Global Business to Lee Benson, CEO of the Able Group of Companies, during the Committee’s International State of the State luncheon Sept. 26. Able provides cost-effective repair and overhaul support to fixed-wing aircraft and helicopter fleets.

The International Business Award acknowledges achievement in global outreach and market collaboration by an Arizona business, measured by significant export activity.

Able utilizes a “captive shop” strategy to keep all work in house, with little or no outsourcing, Benson said. “Because we provide exceptionally efficient component repairs, overhauls and replacement parts, Able is best value alternative for overseas customers, even in China where labor costs are a fraction of ours.”

International activity comprises about a third of Able’s annual sales and has maintained this level after growing 24% in the last year. The keystone of Able’s plans for 300% growth over the next five years is a new 191,000-square-foot repair, overhaul and production facility and hangar at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport. Construction is slated to begin in 2012.
