Plane Janes calendar debuts

By Janice Wood · October 6, 2011 ·

As a follow-up to last year’s fundraising calendar, Pilots Without Pants, which featured 14 vintage pilots (and their planes) in the nude, the Antique Airplane Club of Greater New York has come out with this year’s calendar, one that most pilots will want to hang on a wall. This year’s calendar, Plane Janes, features 13 beautiful women standing next to 13 beautiful airplanes.

The creative force behind the effort, Annemarie Bain, a television producer, notes that this year’s calendar is a direct offshoot from last year’s.

Danielle Miss January “Last year the calendar featured 14 pilots, most of them over the age of 60 wearing nothing but a smile,” she said, noting, “I saw more nude old butt than a proctologist during this shoot. Anyway, in order to get these men to pose nude for me, I had to promise to shoot this year’s calendar with beautiful women, and that is how the Plane Janes calendar was born.”

Proceeds from the calendar will go towards an antique aircraft the club members hope to restore, “but you need more than a wing and a prayer for that!” Bain said.

Many of the planes in this year’s calendar also appeared in last year’s calendar. All of the planes are owned by members of the club, which is based at the Bayport Aerodrome (23N) in Bayport, N.Y.

Tina Miss Cover Model “Our cover model, Tina, is standing next to the Champ (pictured above) that was featured with its owner, Mario Barra, as Mr. August,” Bain said. “Miss April is posed next to the J3 Cub that was featured with Mr. March, Robert Mott, last year. Mr. January was standing next to his N3N, but it looks a little better with this year’s Miss January. And the only flying Auster in the U.S. was next to Mr. November, Stuart Bain, last year, but is now graced by the lovely Miss December, Angie (pictured below). Almost all of the airplanes that were in Pilots Without Pants are in the 2012 Plane Janes calendar, but no one may notice!”

Angie Miss December Auster Bain, who is married to club president Stuart Bain (AKA Mr. November in last year’s calendar), noted that all of this year’s models volunteered their time for the fundraiser.

“Some of the models are represented by City Model and Talent, the others have a different story. Miss July is a dress Lauren Miss Septemberdesigner, Miss May is a television big shot, Miss October is a ballerina, and Miss September is quite an accomplished artist,” she said. “All of the models that appeared in this calendar were sexy, strong and intelligent women, and I am very fortunate to have made their acquaintance. We had a great shoot, and each of them was given a spin around the patch in the J3 Cub by my husband, Stuart Bain. He said he needed practice flying. I choose to believe that.”

While none of the models are club members, the cover model, Tina, and Miss September, Lauren, are the daughters of club member Nick Ziroli. (His plane is featured with Miss February, Alexis Nicole.)” “Nick’s daughters wanted to be in the calendar to help the club, but it was hard to sell to their Daddy,” Bain said. “Much to his relief, we kept it classy. He bought 10 copies.”

The calendar has been received with “a combination of relief and sheer joy,” she said, explaining, “Relief that this year no one’s grandpa was pantless! Joy because the calendar looks great and is selling rather well…but we still need to sell more.”

The calendars are for sale for $19.99 at the club’s website. There’s also a very entertaining video on YouTube promoting the calendar.
