Cleveland Air Race Revival — in Texas

By Janice Wood · October 9, 2011 ·

Building on the history of the National Air Races in Cleveland, Ohio, two air racing visionaries have teamed up to honor the event in a town with the same name — Cleveland, Texas.

Reno Sport Class Silver Winner Ernie Sutter and Cleveland Airport Manager Alf Vien have designed a race that will feature both experimental and factory-built aircraft for the Cleveland Air Race Revival, which is slated for Oct. 15, 8 a.m. to noon. The planes will cover a 150-mile course departing from the Cleveland Municipal Airport (6R3). The official start line is at Lake Water Wheel in Shepherd, with six turn points over Liberty, Hardin, Jasper, Tyler, Polk and San Jacinto counties. The planes will then land back at the Cleveland airport for the big finish.

“Competition and innovation are driving the video communication industry, so the air race seemed like a great fit,” said Bill Starkey, CEO of WowWe Inc., a Texas-based video communications company, which is the official sponsor of the Cleveland Air Race Revival. “And, bottom-line, it will be fun, for the pilots and the spectators. We’re thrilled to be part of this great event. I’m excited to see who joins WowWe in the winner’s circle.”

WowWe works with companies, helping them develop, integrate and utilize video email and web conferencing as a component of their operations. For more information on the race: ClevelandAirRacerevival.blogspot.com
