Nominations are now being accepted for the Robert J. Collier Trophy, which is awarded annually by the National Aeronautic Association “for the greatest achievement in aeronautics or astronautics in America, with respect to improving the performance, efficiency, and safety of air or space vehicles, the value of which has been thoroughly demonstrated by actual use during the preceding year.”

The list of Collier winners represents a timeline of aviation, as many of the awardees mark major events in the history of flight. Recipients of the troophy include such individuals as Neil Armstrong and the crew of Apollo 11, Orville Wright, Elmer Sperry, Dr. Luis Alvarez, and Howard Hughes. Projects and aircraft acknowledged as Collier winners include the B-52, the Global Hawk, and the F-22.
