In honor of Veterans Day, Sgt. Orville Smith will give a special presentation, “A Day in the Life of a Vietnam Soldier,” to Air Zoo visitors on Saturday, Nov. 12, at 2 p.m.
Sgt. Smith will share what his experience was like as a tank commander and platoon sergeant through a collection of photographs he took while in Vietnam. He will also speak about his experience and answer questions at the end of the presentation.
Sgt. Smith served in Vietnam from September 1968 through September 1969. He was a platoon sergeant with the 2nd Battalion, 34th Armor Company C and served most of his time in the Vietnamese demilitarized zone and along the Laotian border.
“A Day in the Life of a Vietnam Soldier” is included in the Air Zoo’s general admission and open to the public.
The Air Zoo is a nonprofit organization located at 6151 Portage Rd. in Portage, Mich. It is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution and offers a restaurant, gift shop and banquet facilities. General admission is $8 per person. Unlimited rides and attractions may be purchased with a wristband package (Ultimate Ace-$15, Junior Flyer-$12, Co-Pilot-$8), which includes general admission, or tickets can be purchased individually for rides.
