Second generation iPad kneeboards now at Sporty’s

By Janice Wood · December 1, 2011 ·

As iPads have appeared in wider range of airplanes, from LSAs to business jets, pilots have discovered a need for iPad-specific kneeboards that are both compact and flexible. To meet these changing needs, Sporty’s has launched two new iPad kneeboards that respond directly to customer requests. The first is a completely new kneeboard made especially for tight cockpits, while the second is an update to Sporty’s original iPad Kneeboard.

Sporty’s new Rotating Slim line iPad Kneeboard is ideal for smaller cockpits, according to company officials. Its low profile design does not interfere with an airplane’s yoke, but it still offers the option to rotate the iPad for either landscape or portrait views. An adjustable elastic strap prevents the iPad from sliding around.

“The Rotating Kneeboard is ideal for chart apps,” says Sporty’s Vice President John Zimmerman. “You use landscape to view large sectionals or en route charts, then switch to portrait when you load an approach or airport diagram.”

Sporty’s updated iPad Kneeboard features an iPad stand that allows pilots to choose different viewing angles to minimize screen glare. These angles have been changed to new, lower profile angles to reduce control interference. In addition, the right side flap can now be folded over for a single panel kneeboard.

Other features of this iPad Kneeboard include mesh pockets and a zippered compartment suited to hold an external GPS, an exterior storage pocket for backup paper charts, and an ID holder.

Sporty’s iPad Kneeboards fit the original iPad and the iPad 2, as well as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Sporty’s Rotating Slimline iPad Kneeboard [5010A] is available for $27.95 and Sporty’s iPad Kneeboard [7951A] is available for $39.95.
