The 2012 New Jersey State Aviation Conference will be held Friday, May 4, at Newark Liberty International Airport’s Administration Building, focusing on the way legal and regulatory issues that affect pilots, aircraft owners, and airport owners.
Conference participants will be welcomed by Mid-Atlantic Aviation Coalition-New Jersey President Mike Stoddard and Newark Liberty International Airport manager Huntley Lawrence.
Department of Transportation Commissioner Jim Simpson, a pilot, will deliver the keynote address. Assemblyman John Wisniewski, chairman of the Assembly Transportation Committee, has been invited to present the legislative perspective on regulatory issues.
This year’s conference will have a new format, addressing three problems faced by pilots and airport owners: TFRs and airspace violations, airport improvement projects, and upgrading aircraft and avionics. Panelists representing various fields will present their perspectives on the problem presented: What kinds of problems can result and how to avoid them. Members of the audience will then be able to ask their own questions.
The conference will include a special presentation on the Hindenburg disaster. The conference will wrap up with a presentation by Lt. Col. Dean Owens, Chief of Safety for the 514th Air Mobility Wing at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.
