Aaron Tippin heads to Sun ’n Fun in his SNJ-4

By Janice Wood · March 19, 2012 ·

Country music star Aaron Tippin flew his SNJ-4 to the Lakeland, Fla., to prepare for his upcoming “Red, White & Loud” concert at next week’s Sun ’n Fun airshow.

Tippin departed Sunday March 18 from SRB to LAL for the Sun n’ Fun fly-in. The last time Tippin attended Sun n’ Fun he flew his 1959 Helio Curior. This time he is flying his SNJ-4, also known as the T-6 or the “J-bird.” Tippin’s airplane is named the “Greek Freak” after his beautiful wife Thea. He explains that Thea is Greek and he is a freak for her. You can see his historic World War II trainer on display at Sun ’n Fun.

The Commemorative Air Force is bringing the Red, White & Loud Tour starring Aaron Tippin and the World’s Only Flying B-29 Superfortress to Sun ‘n Fun. The concert is scheduled on Thursday, March 29, at 8 p.m. on the Florida Air Museum’s AOPA-sponsored Pavilion.

With 13 recorded CDs to his name and more than 30 charted singles, Tippin performs nearly 100 dates each year. His other love is aviation. He soloed on his 16th birthday and became a commercial multi-engine instrument-rated pilot by the age of 18.
