Air Zoo to offer spring break camps

By Janice Wood · March 21, 2012 ·

The Air Zoo in Kalamazoo, Mich., is offering full- and half-day spring break camps for kids of all ages.

Half-day camps will be held March 30, April 4 or April 6 from 1-4 p.m. Campers will build and launch model rockets (weather permitting) while learning about the history of space exploration. They’ll also go on an adventurous scavenger hunt around the Air Zoo and explore the Space: Dare to Dream exhibit. The half-day camp costs $50 per child and includes a model rocket (with an engine and igniter), a juice, a snack, and an Ultimate Ace wristband package.

Full-day camps will be held March 30, April 4 or April 6 from 9:30 p.m.-4 p.m. The full-day camp includes everything in the half-day camp, plus kids will build soda straw and Alka-Seltzer rockets, and have free time to enjoy the Air Zoo’s rides and attractions. This camp costs $75 per child and includes a model rocket (with an engine and igniter), a juice, a snack, lunch with a beverage, a T-shirt and an Ultimate Ace wristband package.

Kids who are 8 years old and younger must be accompanied by a chaperone. Chaperones will receive a complimentary Co-Pilot wristband package along with a juice, a snack and lunch with a beverage (only for the full-day camp).

Each camp is limited to 25 kids per date. For more information or to register for a spring break camp, call 269-350-2848.

The Air Zoo is a nonprofit organization located at 6151 Portage Rd. in Portage, Mich. It is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution and offers a restaurant, gift shop and banquet facilities. General admission is $8 per person. Unlimited rides and attractions may be purchased with a wristband package (Ultimate Ace-$15, Junior Flyer-$12, Co-Pilot-$8), which includes general admission, or tickets can be purchased individually for rides. Children who are 4 years old or younger are free.
