Flying Musicians to jam at Sun ’n Fun

By Janice Wood · March 22, 2012 ·

The Flying Musicians Association will be adding fun to next week’s Sun ’n Fun, performing throughout the week and inviting all pilots to bring their instruments and jam with association members.

The first jam session is slated for Tuesday on the newly built Sennheiser S1 Stage near the Corn Roast in the campgrounds. Just added to the schedule are special 10 a.m. workshops each morning, Tuesday through Saturday, for children, to show them how to how fun with music. Children are encouraged to bring their own instruments, including their band instruments, John Zapp, FAM founder said. “We would love to have the kids come out and learn how to jam,” he said.

FMA members will be performing throughout the show at the Sunset Grill, AOPA Pavilion, the Corn Roast, and the Flying High Coffee locations.

FMA member Ravi the Raviator will open for another flying musician, Aaron Tippin, at the AOPA Pavilion adjacent to the Florida Air Museum on Thursday at 7 pm, while Jeremy Brady will open for the Abbott & Costello show on Saturday at 7 pm.

Flying Musician members will create a Coffee House atmosphere at the three Flying High Coffee locations, including Hangar E, which boasts the WiFi Café.

Members will play at the Sunset Grill on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening, including Ian Blair Fries, Jeremy Brady, Elgin Wells and others. Wells, an aerobatic pilot who will perform in the Night Air Show Friday evening, will also sing the national anthem starting the airshow Thursday through Saturday.

FMA member Larry Quinton not only designed but also built the new stage at the Corn Roast. Larry’s blues band, House of Trouble, will perform Thursday night at the Corn Roast on the new Sennheiser S1 stage.

FMA member Marcia Buckingham and her band, Fly by Night, will perform for several volunteer parties, including the Taildragger Party on April 1 at the AOPA Pavilion as a thank you for the volunteers.

The Flyling Musicians are a great organization. I only recently realized that they do youth outreach programs to get kids excited about science – and yes, aviation!
