Florida Wing moving to Sun ‘n Fun

By Janice Wood · April 1, 2012 ·

Sun ’n Fun President John “Lites” Leenhouts, CAP Florida Wing Commander Colonel Michael Cook, and Vice Commander Lieutenant Colonel Phil Zedonek joined together Saturday at Sun ’n Fun to announce that the headquarters of the Florida Wing of the CAP will be moving to the Sun ’n Fun campus on Lakeland-Linder Regional Airport.

“The Florida Wing has been without a permanent home since the attacks of 9/11,” said Zedonek. “At the time, we were located on MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, but were asked to leave for security reasons.”

At present, the Florida Wing is operating from the Coast Guard Station in Opa Locka.

“We are excited the Florida Wing will find a new permanent home here on the Sun ’n Fun campus,” exclaimed Lites. “We have a few details left to finalize, but know the Florida Wing will be operational here at Sun ’n Fun well ahead of the 2013 fly-in.”
