Flight Safety Foundation launches student chapter

By Janice Wood · April 15, 2012 ·

The Flight Safety Foundation has launched the inaugural FSF Student Chapter at Purdue University.

“We are thrilled to launch this effort and are very pleased to be at Purdue to welcome them as the inaugural Student Chapter,” stated FSF Chief Operating Officer, Kevin Hiatt (Purdue, PPT ‘76). “This is an excellent way for aviation students to get more involved with safety and develop a better understanding of this important part of the industry with hands-on involvement.”

Among the benefits of the Student Membership is the possibility of academic internships, graduate student research and becoming directly involved with the Foundation technical projects and activities. Other benefits include a subscription to AeroSafety World, member discounts to seminars and access to all FSF resources, including the soon-to-be launched Members-Only part of the website, officials noted.

Other schools who wish to develop Student Chapters can contact the Membership Department at the Flight Safety Foundation for complete information, officials added.

The president of the Student Chapter, Scott Winter, PhD candidate, stated, “We are very excited to be starting our involvement with the Flight Safety Foundation. The foundation provides an opportunity for our students to complete safety-related research with current and pressing issues facing the aviation industry, and assists in providing an outlet for this type of research analysis in publications and conferences.”

Flight Safety Foundation (www.flightsafety.org) is an independent, non-profit, international organization engaged in research, education, advocacy and publishing to improve aviation safety. Founded in 1947, the foundation’s mission is to be the leading voice of safety for the global aerospace community.
