Air Zoo blasts off with summer camps

By Janice Wood · April 25, 2012 ·

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The Air Zoo is offering a variety of aviation and space-related camps for kids ages 4-17. Full and partial scholarships are available, museum officials note. Summer camps include:

  • Two is Twice the Fun
  • Earn Your Wings
  • Family Rocket Clinic
  • Cosmic Space Camp
  • Beginner R/C Camp
  • Boys Science Academy
  • Girls Science Academy
  • Advanced Boys Science Academy
  • Advanced Girls Science Academy

All camps include an Ultimate Ace wristband for kids to enjoy the Air Zoo’s rides and attractions, an Air Zoo T-shirt, a daily snack and juice, and a summer camp patch. For camps held past noon, a $5 per day lunch option is available. Summer camp prices range from $100-$300 per child. SkySpace Kids Club and supporting members will receive 10% off.

Full and partial scholarships are available from the Air Zoo Legacy Foundation. To apply for one, campers must write a one-page essay about themselves, explaining why they want to attend camp and how they became interested in science, flight, and space. Applicants must include the name of the camp they want to attend, along with the amount of scholarship they are requesting — full or partial. Essays should be sent to the Air Zoo Legacy Foundation, Attn: Debra Mixis, 6151 Portage Rd., Portage, Mich., 49002 by June 1.
