Book signing at MAPS Air Museum

By Janice Wood · April 26, 2012 ·

The author of “My Very Dearest Anna,” Kara Martinelli, will be at the MAPS Air Museum in Canton, Ohio, Sunday, April 29, for a book signing that coincides with the aviation museum’s spring pancake breakfast.

The first book from Hemlock Films, “My Very Dearest Anna” features letters from Martinelli’s grandparents during World War II.

The pancake breakfast begins at 8, with the book signing beginning at 9 a.m. The museum remains open until 4 p.m. Breakfast is $8 for adults, $5 for children under 12, $6 for MAPS members. Price includes museum admission and parking.

The MAPS Air Museum is located at 2260 International Parkway North Canton, Ohio. Call 330-896-6332 or go to MAPSAirMuseum.org for more information.

Martinelli describes her book this way:

“World War II was raging. Everyone was stepping up to do their part, including my Grandpa, Richard B. Moore. In 1943, he joined the Army Air Corps, a small town boy heading off to fly with the 5th Air Force in the Pacific. But before he could leave, he had to go see about a girl…

My Grandparents fell in love through their letters, separated by a world at war. Their story is told through the mail they had exchanged, following the path of my Grandpa’s training to his bomber missions in the Pacific Theater. When the war ended, it was finally time to come home to his awaiting Anna.

Grandpa used to sit with me and share his stories about his time in the Air Corps. I didn’t want his memories that were so important to him to never be told again. So I filled in the holes between their letters to complete their story. This is the story of how my family began.

Martinelli is the producer of Hemlock Films’ aviation documentaries, Rise Above and The Restorers- They Were All Volunteers for which she has earned 3 Emmy nominations. She is currently working on more episodes for The Restorers television series.
