PrayerFlight reaches goal

By Janice Wood · April 26, 2012 ·

PrayerFlight has reached its goal of 50 Capitals. On May 3, at noon in conjunction with the National Day of Prayer, more than 50 airplanes will fly over every state capital city in the United States with folks onboard praying for our nation.

Back in October 2007 PrayerFlight board members were invited to speak at the National Day of Prayer Retreat in Colorado Springs, Colo., at the Focus on the Family Headquarters where they unveiled the vision for 50 Capitals.

According to Jerry Cress, National Coordinator for PrayerFlight, this will be the fifth annual effort to pray over every state capital on the same day and in a prayer of unity and healing for our nation while in flight.

According to Cress, the mission will be carried out by volunteer pilots, in private airplanes carrying “prayer warriors” who are committed to the mission of PrayerFlight as directed by II Chronicles 7:14: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

“Our mission is to pray for our nation and to trust God to heal our nation,” he said.

PrayerFlight board members are quick to point out that that it is not where we are when we pray but rather the sincerity and fervency of our prayers that God hears and answers. “Our dedicated men and women believe that it is from our perspective in flight that allows us the opportunity to observe God’s awesome creation and are reminded of our duty to pray for our fellow man, cities and nation,” officials said. “We further believe that this endeavor will be a great reminder and inspiration to millions of Americans of the duty and importance to lift up our neighbors, cities, states and nation through prayer.”
