LoPresti First Saturday features Fred Cabanas

First Saturday at LoPresti Aviation on June 2 at Florida’s Sebastian Airport (X26) will feature Fred Cabanas, an aerobatic and race pilot from Key West.

Cabanas started flying at the age of 16 and has over 24,000 hours of total flight time. He holds an Airline Transport Pilot, Multi-Engine, Instrument, Commercial, and Seaplane rating. Fred is also an Air Race pilot. At the Reno air races in September 2005 he won the Silver on Saturday and was advanced to the Gold on Sunday to take 8th place overall making Reno history and was selected Rookie of the year. In 2007 Fred raced a stock P-51 mustang “Luscious Lisa” in the Silver and in 2009 he raced stock P-51 Mustang “American Beauty” to win the Bronze class.

He earned his A&P from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach and is an Aerobatic Competency Evaluator for ICAS and an EAA Warbird Evaluator. He performs air shows internationally in the PITTS SPECIAL S-2C and Hawker Sea Fury, N. American T-28, N. American T-6, N. American P-51 Mustang, Waco, and J3 cub. Fred is a member of the Screen Actors Guild. He has been featured in numerous movies and TV programs, including MTV’s Road Rules.

Fred and Susan, his wife of 32 years, have two children — Kelly and Raymond. Kelly, 30, is a in the US Navy and received her wings of gold on Jan. 23, 2004. She flies the P-3 Orion. Raymond, 22 is a private pilot and currently attends school in Orlando. He is flying banners in the AG Cat and Husky aircraft.

Saturday’s $8 breakfast will benefit The Source, an assistance center for the homeless and near-homeless, serving all of Indian River County, Florida.

The breakfast begins at 9 a.m., with the program running from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
