Communities in Schools of Lexington/Davidson County in North Carolina and Fly High Lexington, the FBO at Davidson County Airport (EXX) will host the third annual Big Toy Day Saturday, Aug. 25, from 10 am to 2 pm. Designed as a fundraiser for 24 schools in the area, the event draws aviation enthusiasts and lovers of “Big Toys” from all over the region, FBO officials said.
Most of the big toys on display are trucks and tractors, including dump trucks and concrete mixers. Law enforcement vehicles, fire trucks, vintage airplanes, including a P-51 based at the airport, large base jets and vintage and modified small vehicles will also be on display. A tractor and trailer will provide hayrides for visitors from the entrance to the display area and the Young Eagles Chapter from Rowan County will be on hand to offer free rides for children.
“Our base tenants are great about being available to display their big toys during this annual event,” said Karel Van Der Linden, director of Fly High Lexington. “By adding the Fly-In we hope to increase the number of airplanes that come to the event and give the crowd a nice show.”
Crew cars will be on hand for guests to visit one of Lexington’s famous barbecue restaurants and food and beverages will also be available for purchase on the field.
