There’s a wonderful story at EAA.org by John M. Allen, Brig Gen (ret), who is director, FAA Flight Standards Service, about how his father inspired not only his passion for aviation, but for others as well. It’s well worth the time to read but — spoiler alert — you will probably finish up the story with tears in your eyes.
Here’s just a sample: “As I write these words, my dad is slipping away from cancer. But one gift of these last weeks is the chance to share our aviation memories, as only aviators can do. On his last Father’s Day, we sat together, quietly enjoying each other’s company and sharing memories of lives so heavily flavored by fixing and flying airplanes.”
