Seaplane Pilots Association to award scholarship

By Janice Wood · July 24, 2012 ·

OSHKOSH — As part of its participation in this week’s AirVenture, the Seaplane Pilots Association will award two fully paid seaplane rating scholarships.

One applicant has already been selected to receive the SPA Tyler Orsow-Chuck Kimes Forever Flying Scholarships, SPA officials report. A second recipient will be selected from applications received at the association’s booth during the show.

“Pilots on a career track today learn to manage an automated cockpit,” said SPA Executive Director Steve McCaughey. “We believe it is important for all aviators to know what every seaplane pilot knows — stick and rudder skills matter and there is no substitute for a passion for aviation. Introducing inspiring pros to the world of seaplane flying through this scholarship program is a wonderful way to further those objectives.”

SPA will accept applications through 3 p.m. Thursday. The scholarship will be awarded at the SPA Corn Roast Thursday evening. Applicants must be current or new members of SPA, be between the ages of 17 and 35, and hold a private ticket or better and pursuing a career in aviation.
