Texas pilot wins aircraft covering system

By Janice Wood · August 8, 2012 ·

Brad Harman of Texas was named winner of Bruce’s Custom Covers custom-fitted aircraft cover awarded to a Gateway To Oshkosh Fly-in participant.

Gateway To Oshkosh (GTO) is an annual event and home to more than 65 aircraft during AirVenture Oshkosh. Participants fly in, park their aircraft and stay in nearby Stevens Point, Wisconsin. In addition to transportation to/from AirVenture, GTO offers daily events and brings together pilots and fans of flying.

In its 11th year, GTO is organized by the Cessna Owner Organization and Piper Owner Society. The two groups represent owner/operators of single and light twin engine aircraft of their respective manufacturer. Bruce’s Custom Covers chose to donate a custom-fitted aircraft canopy cover to show aircraft owners of this type the many benefits of covering an aircraft, company officials said.

“My boys wanted to attend Oshkosh,” Harman said. “I had done the North 40 [AirVenture general aviation camping area] and really enjoyed it. We were meeting some folks flying commercial and [getting there] was problematic and I wasn’t sure about three boys in a tent in 100° weather anyway. The GTO seemed like a good option. It ended up being fantastic, convenient, great people, food, and cold drinks. The Saturday and Sunday in Steven’s Point was as much fun as Oshkosh itself. You get to know several aviators, just like being in the North 40, but don’t have to cook or stay in a tent. The kids get to swim in a pool at night and we had wonderful dinners! The prize, a Bruce’s Custom Cover was a fantastic bonus. I was considering buying one at the show. My [Piper PA-23] Aztec is always hangared so it is painful to see it sitting out in the sun and rain; the cover will be the Aztec’s home away from home.”

Bruce’s Custom Covers and Aircraft Covers offers protective covering systems for aircraft of all types.
