LAURIER, Wash. – Formerly a state-managed airport, Avey Field (69S) in northeast Washington will now be managed by its private owners, Howard and Elaine Slagle. The airport will remain open to the public.
The Washington State Department of Transportation aviation division manages 16 airports across the state. With the loss of Avey, WSDOT will explore cost-effective options to manage another airport in the vicinity. Aviation staff hopes to take over management of another private or community-owned airport that can be used to support emergency management, forest fire fighting and other state aviation activities, state officials said.
At that time, WSDOT will seek input from the pilot community on selection criteria.
