Zaon debuts portable ADS-B system

By Janice Wood · November 22, 2012 ·

DALLAS — Zaon Flight Systems has released the MX1090 portable ADS-B system. Compatible with its PCAS XRX traffic system, the MX1090 adds the benefit of an extended range to 100 nm, according to company officials.

With built-in Bluetooth link capability, the MX1090 becomes a traffic management system known as PCAS X² offering a combination of high detection capability, coupled with the accuracy of a global ADS-B traffic detection system.

The MX1090 is capable of displaying traffic from ADS-B, TIS-B, and PCAS on any Garmin GPSmap 396 and up.

When connected to a moving-map display, the MX1090 will plot all available ADS-B traffic, and in cases where ADS-B data is not available, it can utilize XRX traffic. Overlaps are prevented by tracking both technologies, company officials said.

Starting at $599, other versions include built-in Bluetooth or WiFi options for $649. Zaon’s registered XRX owners can also take advantage of an instant $50 rebate being offered during the initial release of the MX1090.
