New IMC Club opens at PWK

By Janice Wood · January 16, 2013 ·

The first IMC Club chapter in Illinois kicks off Jan. 17 as pilots meet at Chicago Executive Airport (PWK).

Pilots will gather at Fly There in Hangar Five at Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling, Ill., for the official inaugural meeting of the new Chicago Chapter.

Jason M. Unger, Chicago Chapter President and the founder of Fly There, will host the meeting. Unger, who has been involved in aviation for over 14 years, has experience in a wide range of aircraft including the Cirrus SR 20 and 22, Bonanza, Decathlon, Piper Mirage/Matrix, Cessna 310 & 421, Pilatus PC-12 and a type rating in the EA-50 Eclipse Jet.

At the meeting, prospective members will be given the opportunity to interact with IMC Club founder and President Radek Wyrzykowski.

“I am overwhelmed and very excited by the incredible response of the General Aviation community to our IMC Club safety initiative and mission,” Wyrzykowski said. “I strongly believe that the only person who can best help a pilot become safe, proficient and proficient is another pilot. By creating these face-to-face social groups, we allow people to do just that.”

In the next few weeks, IMC Club International Inc. will be opening additional chapters in Quincy, Ill. (January 19), Lakeville, Minn., (January 24), and Columbus, Ga. (February 27). Additional chapters and meetings are planned for South Carolina, Colorado, California and Florida, all of which will bring the total number of IMC Club Chapters to more than 55, almost double the number from the same time last year.

The IMC Club is an organization dedicated to promoting safety and proficiency among its instrument-rated members. The IMC Club encourages creation of local communities of pilots who meet to discuss topics and share information specific to instrument flying. Members call it “organized hangar flying” that promotes sharing of experience and encourages more and safer instrument aviation. The IMC Club acts as a network of pilots who share their knowledge and experience while learning from one another.
