Northstar Flight Lab takes off

By Ben Sclair · January 31, 2013 ·

REDMOND, Ore. – RDD Enterprises has added a new advanced flight training center named Northstar Flight Lab, designed to cater to the needs of pilots operating technologically advanced aircraft (TAA).

The addition of a Redbird FMX simulator is at the center of the new facility.

Northstar Flight Lab’s mission is to provide transition and recurrent training for advanced aircraft equipped with the Garmin G1000 and G900 avionics suite, according to company officials.

“We’re able to keep training costs down by doing a large portion of the scenario-based training on the ground with the full motion simulator and a host of multi-media materials without burning a gallon of fuel,” stated Dave McRae, director of business development for RDD Enterprises and Northstar Flight Lab.

To meet the training demand, Scott Fordham recently joined Northstar to lead the advanced flight training program.

“We’re tremendously excited about Scott joining the RDD Team to manage the flight operations side of the business,” McRae added. “He’s a recognized expert in the high-performance aircraft training field, who brings a wealth of knowledge, skill and experience to the RDD team.”

Northstar also offers aircraft owners the ability to combine advanced flight training with scheduled maintenance and/or unscheduled repairs and take advantage of package pricing.

“And the beauty of our Central Oregon location means that pilots can combine training and maintenance with a vacation in the area to ski Mount Bachelor, fly fish in the Deschutes River, enjoy the Bend Film Festival or any number of adventures that Central Oregon has to offer,” McRae concluded.
