SportairUSA chooses Vertical Power VP-X for LSA

By General Aviation News Staff · March 19, 2013 ·

SportairUSA, distributor of the Sting and Sirius Light-Sport Aircraft, has chosen the Vertical Power VP-X Electronic Circuit Breaker System to manage the electrical system and control the trim and flaps.

The VP-X integrates with electronic flight information systems (EFIS) from Dynon, Grand Rapids Technology and Garmin, allowing pilots to monitor the status of individual devices and the entire electrical system right from the EFIS.

The VP-X replaces 80-year-old thermal breaker technology with modern solid-state Electronic Circuit Breakers, according to company officials. ECBs can detect short circuits, over-current conditions, and open-circuit faults, officials note.

“We are using the VP-X on our aircraft as a modern alternative to the old method of mechanical circuit breakers and complicated wiring,” said Bill Canino, president of SportairUSA. “The VP-X is a safer system, with fewer failure points, improved quality control and a simplified wiring harness compared to conventional installations.”

“The VP-X offers a tremendous amount of capability at a very affordable price,” said Marc Ausman, president of Vertical Power Inc. “We’re glad to be working with SportairUSA to expand our offerings in the Light-Sport Aircraft market.”
