AOPA upgrades FlyQ Pocket App

By General Aviation News Staff · July 1, 2013 ·

The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) has released an iOS upgrade to its FlyQ Pocket app.

AOPA FlyQ Pocket Version 1.1 features a quicker way to search for airports by city and state, allows pilots to file wind-optimized flight plans, and offers weather briefings (both graphical and text-based) from either CSC DUATS or DTC DUAT.

The new release also displays displaced thresholds, enhances the “Favorites” feature and includes one-touch rental car access to Alamo Rent A Car, Enterprise Rent-A-Car and National Car Rental, association officials said.

“FlyQ Pocket 1.1 is a direct result of member input as this app evolves in ways that are most valued by AOPA users,” said Andrew Ross, director of FlyQ products. “This is how we learned that enhancing the search function for airports would make the app even faster and easier to use. We will keep seeking member feedback to help drive new features for all of our FlyQ products.”

In a little more than a year, FlyQ Pocket has been downloaded more than 85,000 times, AOPA officials noted.

As part of the AOPA FlyQ family, FlyQ Pocket automatically shares flight plans, pilot profiles and aircraft configurations with other family member products: FlyQ EFB for the iPad and FlyQ Web for PC and Mac computers.

AOPA FlyQ Pocket requires an Apple iPhone 3GS or later running iOS 4.3 or later, an Apple iPad, or Android phone or tablet running Android 2.2 or later. Version 1.1 is available now for the iPhone and iPad and Version 1.0.2 is available now for Android.
