Sonex enters quick build market

By General Aviation News Staff · July 17, 2013 ·

Sonex Aircraft now has available new Quick Build options for the Sonex, Waiex, and Onex aircraft models.

These new kit upgrades consist of Sonex Aircraft Complete Airframe Kits with major assemblies pre-constructed; the fuselage and wing of the aircraft will be included assembled and riveted, and the aircraft canopy will be installed.

Sonex and Waiex wings are rigged and match-drilled to the fuselage, and Onex outboard wing panels are rigged and match-drilled to the wing center section.

Quick Build upgrade pricing for all three aircraft models is $10,000.

Sonex Aircraft Quick Build assemblies will be on display during the upcoming EAA AirVenture Oshkosh fly-in.

SonexQuickBuildWEB“We are very excited to enter the Quick Build market with our popular Sonex Aircraft designs,” said Sonex Aircraft CEO Jeremy Monnett. “Combined with our market-leading Complete Airframe Kit pricing, Quick Build Sonex Aircraft kit total price will start at $23,000. This represents a savings of approximately $5,000 to $10,000 over our competition in the Quick Build marketplace.”

Sonex Quick Build assemblies are constructed in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, with regular quality inspections by Sonex Aircraft staff, he noted.

In compliance with the “major portion” requirement of 14 CFR section 21.191(g) for experimental/amateur-built aircraft, commonly referred to as the 51% Rule, the FAA National Kit Evaluation Team (NKET) concluded an audit of Sonex Aircraft Quick Build Kits on July 10.

The NKET audit took place over a three-day period with all models resulting in a compliant Quick Build comparable with most others in the market, according to company officials.

Sonex Aircraft officials add they are expecting the new Sonex, Waiex, and Onex Quick Build 8000-38 checklists to be published on the FAA website soon.

Sonex Aircraft will be offering specialized transport services for Quick Build Kits to most regions of the lower 48 United States through Partain Transport Co.
