Museum slates open cockpit day

By General Aviation News Staff · July 22, 2013 ·

The Oakland Aviation Museum in Oakland, Calif., will hold Open Cockpit Day Aug. 11.

The planes will be open for inspection from 12 noon to 4 p.m.

Aircraft that will be open include a Mig-15, a Harrier vertical takeoff and landing airplane and the largest and heaviest carrier-based operational aircraft ever built, the Skywarrior (pictured), the Navy’s first strategic all-jet nuclear bomber and was in service for over 35 years.

Come aboard the flying boat that flew from England to Johannesburg during the late 1940’s, owned by Howard Hughes from 1965 to 1972 and was featured in “Raiders of the Lost Ark.”

Oakland Aviation Museum, located at old North Field at Oakland Airport, is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 am-4 pm. The museum is housed in the 1939 Boeing School of Aeronautics building at 8252 Earhart Road.
