SkyCraft begins taking deposits

By General Aviation News Staff · July 28, 2013 ·

OREM, UTah — On July 29, SkyCraft will begin accepting deposits for the SD-1 Minisport through the website’s Buy-A-Plane page. There are currently 14 pre-orders, filling production slots until summer of 2014, company officials report, adding SkyCraft is able to fill 26 more orders in the 2014 calendar year.

Production on the SD-1 Minisport has maintained ASTM compliance, and SkyCraft officials said they are now confident the SD-1 will achieve S-LSA certification in September of this year.

Flight testing on the first airplane is still in progress. Meanwhile, building continues on the first two production model airplanes at the Utah factory.

The production model version has been improved several times over the past few weeks to include a lock on the baggage compartment and the use of fire retardant materials in the cabin interior and baggage compartment for additional pilot and baggage safety, company officials said.

The Tri-Gear version of the production model SD-1 will be making its first public appearance at Oshkosh this year.

SkyCraft is also now offering an optional customized enclosed trailer that will act as both a transportation and storage option for the SD-1 Minisport. The price of the 16’ x 8’ trailer is $6,600.

An updated, comprehensive list of preliminary aircraft specifications is available here.
