The 28th Annual Simsbury Fly-In and Car Show, the largest event of its kind in New England featuring displays of over 600 airplanes and cars of every vintage and type, will be held Sept. 15 at Simsbury Airport (4B9) in Connecticut, with a rain date of Sept. 22.
This year’s event will include a replica of the Gustave Whitehead aircraft which is claimed to have flown two years before the Wright Brothers, and a seminar on this historic controversy.
A full-size mockup of the Cirrus Vision SF50 aircraft will be available for viewing. Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome will fly its World War I Spad fighter plane and 1930 Tiger Moth. The RE/MAX hot air balloon will offer tethered rides, winds permitting.
Many new cars and airplanes will be on display by their dealers. Local artists and businesses will display their products. Activities will be provided for children. Pets on leashes are welcome, and a watering station is available. Breakfast and lunch will be available, along with specialty food items including Ben and Jerry’s ice cream.
There is no admission charge, but a donation is appreciated, organizers note. Parking is located nearby at $5, with proceeds to the Boy Scouts. Handicapped parking and restrooms are available.
