SunSocket available at Aircraft Spruce

By General Aviation News Staff · October 25, 2013 ·

Now available at Aircraft Spruce is the SunSocket Solar EnergyBar 250, a high capacity portable battery pack powerful enough to be classified as a “generator,” but still extremely lightweight and safe for aircraft.

It utilizes lithium iron phosphate battery technology, which is stable and non-hazardous (unlike other lithium-ions), according to company officials.

It can provide up to 30 hours of power for many USB devices, and up to six hours of power for larger electronic equipment like thermal coolers or laptops.

For more information: AircraftSpruce.com or 877-477-7823. Reference part number 11-12101.

I looked this item over pretty closely at AOPA Summit and having used solar panels and batteries for a fair amount a dry camping for a week or more at a time.

I found it’s capacity and it’s numerous the USB outputs including 110 vac inverter built in a real plus.
It isn’t very large for what it does.
They also offer some solar cells that fold into a briefcase. Very clever.

A generator by definition is a device that converts mechanical to electrical energy. No level of capacity or power can make this a generator. Interesting product though.
