Just Aircraft ships 500th kit

By General Aviation News Staff · May 20, 2014 ·

WALHALLA, S.C. — Just Aircraft has shipped its 500th kit, a SuperSTOL, to James Coonan in Ransom, Ill.

Kits have gone to all 50 states and over 20 foreign countries, company officials report.

Though the company is still shipping out kits for the Highlander, the majority of sales in the past year have been SuperSTOLs. Since the SuperSTOL was introduced last year, kit sales have more than doubled and the company has added a second shift to keep up with demand, officials note.

Just Aircraft in crateThe high wing, two-seat, fabric-covered aircraft can be built as a taildragger or tricycle gear aircraft. The SuperSTOL can be fitted with regular or tundra tires, floats or skis.

SuperSTOLs can be built in the Experimental Amateur-Built category. They are available with Rotax or Jabaru powerplants. With an empty weight of 720 pounds, the SuperSTOL has a useful load capability of 600 pounds.

I sometimes wonder if we should include kit aircraft deliveries in the overall aircraft delivers statistic. Maybe aviation is doing better than we think? Kit airplanes sure seems to be a continually growing segment less encumbered by the FAA.

They got it right. Great planes that fit their mission. Good job!
