FAIRHOPE, Ala. — Zulu Flight Training and Continental Motors will hold a “Learn to Fly” day on Saturday, May 24, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at H. L. Sonny Callahan Airport. Admission is free.
Events and activities include Discovery Flights, Young Eagles flights, aircraft displays, flight simulators, educational seminars, children’s activities, and more. Hamburgers, hotdogs, ice cream handmade on site, and other refreshments will be available free of charge.
Zulu Flight Training instructors will offer free Discovery Flights to prospective flight training students and demonstrate the latest flight training methods.
For ages 8-17, Young Eagles Flights will be held thanks to the generosity of the local EAA Chapters. Participants will get a chance to experience the process of flying from start to finish. Since 1992 Young Eagles flights have been safely conducted in nearly every type of general aviation aircraft, from light planes to business jets, and everything in between.
Aircraft on display will include warbirds, production civilian aircraft, and amateur-built kit airplanes. Participants can also “fly” the Cessna 172 full motion simulator.
“The purpose of the event is to promote the joy and benefits of flight, how easy it is to learn to fly, and our communities role in aviation,” said Bill Ross, Director of Product Support & Mattituck Services at Continental Motors, Inc.
Ross emphasized that the event will allow young people to be exposed to potential careers in aviation. In addition to flights, instructors will provide educational seminars on how to become an airplane mechanic and pilot.
“The Mobile and Baldwin county areas are quickly becoming a thriving area for which aviation careers can be fostered,” said Ross. “We want to raise awareness on how easy it is to become a pilot, how aircraft ownership is well within reach and how anyone can learn to fly.”
Zulu Flight Training specializes in professional flight instruction with the aid of simulation training. Zulu is located at the Eastern Shore Centre in Spanish Fort.
