Sporty’s welcomed more than 100 airplanes and their occupants, as well as many guests who arrived by car, to Sporty’s Tenth Annual Fly-In, held Saturday, May 17.
“Counting attendance is always an iffy proposition, but at Sporty’s, we can count free hot dogs,” says Sporty’s President Michael Wolf. “We grilled and distributed more than 1,100 hot dogs to Fly-In attendees.
In addition to their free lunch, Fly-in attendees took advantage of free seminars, with iPad flying and ForeFlight’s seminar the most well attended with standing room only. In addition, an array of exhibits attracted questions and interaction with industry representatives.
At noon, Sporty’s Sweepstakes Airplane, a brand-new RV-12, was awarded to John Ballard, of Midlothian, Texas. Ballard had ordered merchandise from Sporty’s for his son, who is a pilot.
Next year’s Fly-in and Sweepstakes award is scheduled for Saturday, May 16, 2015.
Now in its 52nd year, Sporty’s has grown from a one-man operation launched by Hal Shevers to the world’s largest pilot shop and an iconic general aviation brand. Sporty’s operations extend to airport management, avionics installation and repair, aircraft maintenance, a residential airport community, new aircraft sales and flight training, including for the University of Cincinnati’s professional pilot program.
Located at Clermont County/Sporty’s Airport (I69), Sporty’s is philanthropically dedicated to expanding the general aviation community with both pilots and skilled technicians.
