See Red Bull Air Race on TV tonight

By General Aviation News Staff · June 2, 2014 ·

In the sweltering tropical heat of Putrajaya, Malaysia, the third leg of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship airs Monday, June 2, at 7 pm ET/4 pm PT on FOX Sports 1.

After two races, Hannes Arch of Austria and Paul Bonhomme of Britain are taking their rivalry to new heights.  Arch, the 2008 champion, beat the defending champion from Great Britain in the last race of the world’s fastest motorsport series in Rovinj, Croatia, by fractions of a second following Bonhomme’s narrow defeat over Arch in the season opener in Abu Dhabi.

“Things are getting muggy as we travel to Malaysia for the first air race in Asia,” said FOX Sports 1 analyst Mike Mangold. “After two stops, two veteran pilots have jumped out in a tie for the lead of the World Championship and could pull away from the rest of the field with another 1-2 finish.”

The standings after two races:

1. Hannes Arch (AUT) 21 points, 2. Paul Bonhomme (GBR) 21, 3. Pete McLeod (CAN) 12, 4. Yoshihide Muroya (JPN) 7, 5. Matt Hall (AUS) 7, 6. Nicolas Ivanoff (FRA) 5, 7. Martin Sonka (CZE) 5, 8. Nigel Lamb (GBR) 5, 9. Matthias Dolderer (GER) 5, 10. Kirby Chambliss (USA).

In the Red Bull Air Race, pilots race against the clock as they try to navigate their race planes as fast as possible through a challenging low-altitude slalom course filled with Air Gate obstacles. The pilots endure forces of up to 10Gs in the tight air-course turns.

After Malaysia, the tour continues on to Poland, Britain, the United States and China.

Hosted by Nick Fellows with analysis by former Air Race pilot Mike Mangold, the Red Bull Air Race World Championship is part of a Red Bull global sports series on FOX Sports 1 that also includes the Cliff Diving World Series, X-Fighters, and the Crashed Ice World Championship.

The Malaysia broadcast will also be available immediately after the FOX Sports 1 show on demand starting at 9 pm ET on Red Bull TV, which is available for free at www.redbull.tv, through its iOS and Android applications, Apple TV, Chromecast, and select Smart TV’s. These stories keep saying we can watch it on live Red Bull TV and it’s not true. Twice now I’ve tried and it’s blacked out in the US. Have to be a cable subscriber.
