The latest edition of the Instrument Procedures Handbook (FAA-H-8083-16) is now available from ASA in print and eBook formats.
This handbook supersedes the previous edition (FAA-H-8261-1A), which was last updated in 2007.
Designed as a technical reference for all pilots who operate under instrument flight rules (IFR) in the national airspace system, the Instrument Procedures Handbook expands and updates information contained in the FAA-H-8083-15B, Instrument Flying Handbook, and introduces advanced information for IFR operations, according to ASA officials.
This handbook provides detailed coverage of instrument charts and procedures, including IFR takeoff, departure, en route, arrival, approach, and landing.
New content explores controlled flight into terrain, enhanced flight vision systems, head-up display, and synthetic and enhanced vision systems.
The NextGen System is covered, including ADS-B, SWIM, data and network communications systems, and a “forecast” of NextGen planned improvements.
Also included are pertinent issues related to the development, limitations and utilization of airborne navigation databases in use today and for future use in an ever-modernizing national airspace system.
The softcover, 312-page book is priced at $29.95; the ebook is priced at $24.95; both books are available as a bundle for $34.95.

…and correction deflection: the FAA-H-8083-16 (2014) INSTRUMENT PROCEDURES HANDBOOK is on the FAA pubs site. Now they work on revising the FAA-H-8083-15B INSTRUMENT FLYING HANDBOOK. Likely will get a number ’16A’ designator on the end of the title, we’ll see.
FAA-H-8083-15A ‘INSTRUMENT FLYING HANDBOOK’ (2007) is superseded by Same title: FAA-H-8083-15B (2012). FAA-H-8083-16 (2014) May Not be shown on the FAA Pubs website (but will be) That’s One manual. FAA-H-8261A ‘INSTRUMENT PROCEDURES HANDBOOK’ (2007) Is superseded by Same Title (2014). Respectfully clarify this as there are two separate and useful manuals…..rhh
