Wings Over Wiscasset set for Aug. 8-9

WISCASSET, Maine — The second annual Wings Over Wiscasset (WOW) Fly-In will take place Aug. 8-9,  featuring a World War II vintage airshow by the Texas Flying Legends Museum.

The fundraising event at Wiscasset Airport (KIWI) includes aviation programs for the kids on Friday, raffles, and historical presentations.

011The two-day event features educational and veterans programs, military museum presentations, exhibits, food, a big band swing dance, antique autos, helicopter and airplane rides.

The American Legion will serve a pancake breakfast on both Friday and Saturday mornings from 8 to 10:30 am to raise funds for their local veteran programs. The dance is on Friday night from 8-11 with a live swing band. Tickets are $35 and are being sold in advance.

025The Airshow will take to the skies Saturday afternoon Aug. 9. Throughout Saturday there will be aircraft rides, exhibitors, food vendors, tours, music and more presentations, including a World War II re-enactment camp.

    Went last year, it was a good time. If you’re going to fly in keep in mind that Runway 25 is right traffic. There were no TFRs last year, but there was a NOTAM posted late closing the airport down after 5 or 6 pm. Don’t get caught if you don’t want to spend the night!
