The Scheme Designers Scavenger Hunt at this year’s AirVenture drew contestants of all ages and nationalities. Ultimately, the winners of the scavenger hunt was a team of sisters, Amelia Stagg, 11, and Piper Stagg, 9, of Lancaster, Pa. (shown in the photo below with Craig Barnett, Scheme Designers president).
The girls spent the week at KOSH, and made the scavenger hunt a central part of their activities. Getting daily clues from Facebook and EAA Radio, the Stagg Sisters were the only entrants to successfully find all specially marked aircraft carrying the special “Paint Scheme By Scheme Designers” decal.
This year, the Scheme Designers decal could be found on approximately 20 aircraft in the main aircraft display, including EAA’s One Week Wonder Zenith, AOPA’s Sweepstakes Debonair and Reimagined 152, past show grand champions, and aircraft from Quest, Socata, Aviat, American Champion, Piper, and Mooney’s new Acclaim, among others.
Both Amelia and Piper are enthusiastic in their aviation pursuits, which isn’t hard to believe given their aviation-centric names. Typically, first place winners get to choose a custom built and painted desktop model from Factory Direct Models, and the sister’s win sparked a debate over what aircraft they would choose. Not wanting to limit the Stagg Sister’s enthusiasm, Factory Direct Models and Scheme Designers will be awarding two custom models – one for each.
This year’s AirVenture goes down in the books as the best ever for Scheme Designers. An unprecedented number of aircraft owners whose aircraft bear a custom Scheme Designers paint scheme stopped in at the booth, and the team successfully closed a record number of new sales for future custom schemes.
Additionally, nine of this year’s award winners wore Scheme Designers paint schemes including: Reserve Grand Champion Kit Built – Silver Lindy (2014 RV-8, N938W); Kit Champion – Bronze Lindy (Swearingen SX300, N87SX); Kit Champion – Bronze Lindy (2007 RV-8, N84JE); Piper PA-24 Comanche – Outstanding in Type (1962 Piper PA-24-250, N7920P); Seaplane Grand Champion – Gold Lindy (Republic SeeBee, N6230K); Class III Single-Engine (231-plus hp) – Bronze Lindy (1970 Beech V35B, N9068Q); Best Metal (Cessna 182R, N411PB); Best Custom Runner-Up – Large Plaque (1946 Beech D18S, N412K); and Custom Class D (236-plus hp) – Small Plaque (Super Chipmunk, N7DW).
