SUN ‘n FUN offers in-flight orientation to freshman

By General Aviation News Staff · November 17, 2014 ·

Each day this week, freshman students newly enrolled at the Central Florida Aerospace Academy (CFAA) in Lakeland, Florida, on the campus of SUN ‘n FUN, will be airborne thanks to a contribution from Knight Industries.

Bob Knight, chairman of the SUN ‘n FUN Board of Directors stated, “SUN ‘n FUN Board of Directors, staff and volunteers are committed to supporting the aviation industry and creating an environment in which students will be encouraged to ‘Build a Brighter Future through Aviation.’ Qualified pilots from around central Florida are contributing their personal aircraft and professional skills to introduce CFAA 9th graders to the world of flight.”

SUN ‘n FUN contributes more than $430,000 annually to scholarships for students in Polk County. At CFAA, a Polk County Schools Workforce Academy, students are introduced to aviation industry careers not only as pilots and mechanics, but designers, engineers, administrators and more.

CFAA students are introduced to career possibilities that may include dual enrollment during high school headed to a Polk State College Bachelor of Aerospace Sciences degree, Florida Polytechnic Engineering program enrollment and/or Traviss Career Center Aircraft and Powerplant Mechanic Certification.
